CARTS HEARTS an Adventure 5k

Join in on "The fastest parade in Huntsville!" You and 5 friends running through downtown with decked out shopping carts, add in team themes, costumes, contests and a food and fundraising drive and you get the CARTS4HEARTS Adventure 5k.

Hundreds of women, men, teenagers, superheroes, rock bands, Greeks, elephants, tigers, volunteers, and excited philanthropists gather to create this amazingly unique costumed charity shopping cart race of epic proportions — CARTS4HEARTS Adventure 5k.

 

Here’s what the event consists of:  Teams of 4 - 6 people, raising Food and Funds for the purpose of changing lives of the homeless and hurting in Huntsville, all while racing tricked-out shopping carts through the frigid streets of downtown Huntsville.

There’s no event like this anywhere in the South. If you like road races, adventures and costumes, you’ll love the CARTS4HEARTS Adveture 5k.

Objectives:

  • Have a great time!

  • Create a “theme” for your team members and cart.

  • Bring as much food as possible to support the Downtown Rescue Mission and win a prize for most pounds of food collected by one team.

  • The team raising the most funds will also win a prize.

  • Complete the adventure race.

 

What You Need:

  • A team of 4 - 6 members with a team theme.

  • A decorated shopping cart matching your team theme.

  • A food collection and fundraising plan. (Downtown Rescue Mission staff will help).

 

General Rules

  •  A team consists of 6 people “dogs” and a shopping cart “sled”.

  • Team and sled must have a theme, costumes and decorations.

  •  A team’s final time will be confirmed and recorded when the last team member crosses the finish line.

  •  Teams must stick together at all times.

  • Prepare accordingly. The race will go on no matter the weather conditions.

  •  Team fundraising donations will be collected at the check-in area prior to the race.

  •  Team food donations will be weighed in at the Box Truck prior to the race.

  •  Teams are asked to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to race start for weigh- in and check-in.

  • Your teammates must be touching your cart at all times; after all, it is a “dog sled” race.

  •  While racing, be sure to keep your team and shopping cart on race route while obeying traffic rules.

  •  Teams are only allowed to travel by foot and touching the “sled” at all times. Use of private or public transportation such as buses, taxis, trains, helicopters, or boats is forbidden. Don’t risk getting disqualified!

  •  Teams caught sabotaging other teams, permanently modifying the shopping cart (i.e. rocket launchers), or being disrespectful will be disqualified. Remember this is a family friendly event.
